Western Scrub Jay

This Western Scrub Jay was much more cooperative that most. I almost missed out on this opportunity as I was walking away from having photographed a Western Kingbird at Paramount Ranch when I decided to go back for some more. I didn't get any more Kingbird photos, but I did get some of my best of this Scrub Jay.

Every once in a while I get a picture of a bird with its nictitating membrane over its eye. Such is the case with this Western Scrub Jay and this time I actually got two pictures of it.
This Jay was perched in a tree just before the bridge leading out of Unit S at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge back in early September.
